Homes still affordable in Wake Forest.

Property Values Boom as the city of Raleigh expands into Wake Forest.

The average house is starting to sell at above average prices fueled by an increase in the the number of people moving to this little town just north of Raleigh. The shortage of available land in Raleigh, has resulted in the expansion into Wake Forest, with a proportional increase in residential and commercial Development of Wake Forest.

“It is a shame the town planners are not doing their jobs about traffic planning. It takes an extra 10 minutes just to get downtown along South Main Street” says one resident. “It makes me want to avoid downtown unless absolutely necessary. People are going to choose to go to Wal-Mart and Target instead of doing business in the downtown area. Pretty soon we will see shops closing and shop owners going to work at the national chain stores. All I can say is, it is a crying shame.”

Many people agree, but there are some people who like the new growth. One employee of an insurance agency remarks, “I work on South Main Street, but I live in Franklinton. I will go shopping on my lunch hour, instead of going to a restaurant. I don’t need to get any fatter. This is a good thing!”.

On the other side of Capital Blvd, towards Wakefield, there is new construction where I do my grocery shopping. I took a look at the stores moving in. There are going to be restaurants to tempt my insurance agent. Almost all of stores are franchises or owned by companies from out of town. I suspect there will be a lot of minimum wage jobs available.

Heading down towards Falls Lake and the Wakefield area, I see beautiful new houses that look like mansions. If people are going to live there, they are going to have to get the higher paying jobs at RTP and in the Cary and Morrisville area, because the jobs nearby will not provide a living wage.

I wonder where the people who work there are going to be able to afford to live. The only apartments and homes I can think of are across town. As I sit at the traffic light which has gone from red to green, then yellow to red again, my thoughts turn to the price of a gallon of gas, air pollution, then back to the non-planners.
